SC Hispanic Leadership Council announces
scholarships for rising Hispanic college freshmen
The South Carolina Hispanic Leadership Council is proud to announce the
REACH Youth Scholarship opportunities. These scholarships are made possible
through a collaboration with State Farm Insurance and its Good Neighborhood
Program. "It is our intent to afford our aspiring Latino students an opportunity
to fulfill their dreams of higher education" said Lad Santiago, President of the
SC Hispanic Leadership Council. "It is our hope that we will be able to inspire
our youth to continue with their education in order to become future leaders in
our community."
Eight (8) five hundred dollar scholarships are available
to South Carolina Hispanic students who will be students at an accredited
College or University for the school year 2010-2011. The recipients will be
selected by the SC Hispanic Leadership Council's Board based on the following
criteria: Character and personality, superior school scholarship and seriousness
of purpose, superior citizenship and leadership, financial need, concerning
ability, character and promise of contribution to the Hispanic community.
Scholarship will be awarded based on need, academic and extra curricular
achievement, communication skills, and completion of application.
The
scholarships will be paid directly to the student and presented at the SC
Hispanic Leadership Council Annual Conference.
Applications are available through school
guidance counselors or at the SC Hispanic Leadership Council website
(www.schlc.org). Applicants must complete application form in its entirety and
return it to the South Carolina Hispanic Leadership Council. Application must be
received by May 15, 2010 at SC Hispanic Leadership Council, PO BOX 7013 Columbia
SC 29202.
The South Carolina Hispanic Leadership Council (SCHLC) is a
statewide, not-for-profit organization established by a group of leaders in the
Hispanic community to inform, advocate for, and educate both the Hispanic
community and the population at large on issues affecting Hispanics.

helping raise the levels of achievement of our nation's teachers and students,
to making our homes and highways safe, and to building strong
communities.

APPLICATION
Academic Scholarship Application 2008
I. Eligibility:
A. Applicant must be Hispanic, resident of South
Carolina and a rising college freshman or a college student at a public or private college or
university.
B. Applicant must complete application form in its entirety
and return it to the South Carolina Hispanic Leadership Council. Application
must be received by May 15, 2010 at SC Hispanic Leadership Council, PO BOX 7013
Columbia SC 29202.
C. Applicant must attach a recent photograph and a
grade transcript to the application. (GED scores may take the place of a high
school transcript).
II. Award:
A. Scholarships are available to South Carolina Hispanics who will be students in an accredited College or University for the school year
2010-2011.
B. The Recipients will be selected by the SC Hispanic
Leadership Council board based on the following criteria: Character and
personality, superior school scholarship and seriousness of purpose, superior
citizenship and leadership, financial need, concerning ability, character and
promise of contribution to the Hispanic community.
C. The scholarships
will be presented to the student at the SC Hispanic Leadership Council Annual
Conference.
D.
Scholarship will be awarded based on need, academic and extra curricular
achievement, communication skills, and completion of application.
E.
Scholarship will be paid directly to the student. Student must submit
college/university registration or college identification at time of scholarship
distribution.
F. The SC Hispanic Leadership Council Scholarship is made
possible thanks to a donation by State Farm Insurance.
